This book is about the various judgments delivered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and various High Courts in India involving the movies, films, TV serials, film stars, actors and actresses etc.
People in India, in particular, are fascinated by the film world. Infact, it is said that the two things which keep India moving are films and cricket. The history of films in India dates back to 1920s when the first talkie titled ‘ALAM ARA’ was released. Prior to that, the films used to be silent with no sound track. Every year, lots of movies are churned out by the film industry in India. The film industry is based mainly at Bombay and is aptly called BOLLYWOOD.
People are always interested in knowing about the film personalities. I felt that one aspect of the film industry and its artists is the various cases which are filed by or against them in the courts of law in India. There is little or no awareness or information readily available to the general public about these cases and ABOUT the ultimate decision in those cases by the courts. People rely mainly on the news reports, which at times, are spiced up to entertain their readers. I thought why not identify certain select judgments and bring the whole text of these judgments, unedited, before the public so that they get to know as to what was the controversy or issue in a particular case involving the film world and what was the view and decision of the Court on such issue or controversy. It is really exciting to read these judgments in detail. I, for one, am thrilled and excited to read these judgments and fascinated by reading about film world. I tried but could not locate any single source where the judgments related to Indian film industry are available.
